General information

Short Summary
The project aims to develop and deploy a Digital Battery Passport-Integrated BMS to enhance battery lifecycle management, real-time diagnostics, and regulatory compliance. This system will enable predictive maintenance, performance optimization, and full traceability by integrating secure battery data exchange with cloud-based analytics.
Full Description
The battery industry is facing increasing regulatory and technical challenges in traceability, safety, and lifecycle optimization, particularly with the upcoming EU Battery Regulations set to become mandatory in 2027. To address these challenges, a Digital Battery Passport-Integrated BMS is being developed to bridge the gap between advanced battery analytics, compliance, and lifecycle management.

This system will combine real-time battery health diagnostics with secure, transparent data exchange, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards while optimizing performance and extending battery lifespan. The Digital Battery Passport will provide a structured and standardized approach to battery lifecycle tracking, supporting second-life applications and recycling. Additionally, a cloud-based BMS platform will enable remote monitoring, predictive analytics, and large-scale battery fleet management, ensuring seamless integration with digital passports and compliance frameworks.
Advantages and Innovations
Regulatory Compliance & Standardization (WP1 & WP3): The system aligns with EU Battery Regulations, integrating secure lifecycle data management and automated compliance tracking via the Battery Passport cloud platform. By defining data protocols and validation metrics, it supports battery standardization efforts and industry-wide adoption.

Advanced Battery Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance (WP2, WP4, WP6): By continuously collecting and analyzing voltage, current, temperature, and SoX (SoC, SoH, SoP) data, the cloud-connected BMS enables real-time performance tracking, early fault detection, and predictive maintenance. Secure data acquisition and communication protocols ensure seamless integration between the BMS and cloud platforms, facilitating proactive decision-making.

Lifecycle Optimization & Circular Economy Support (WP3, WP6, WP8): The Battery Passport platform serves as a centralized data hub, enabling battery traceability, second-life assessment, and responsible recycling. The system identifies batteries suitable for reuse and repurposing, ensuring optimal resource utilization and compliance with circular economy initiatives.

Safety & Cybersecurity Enhancement (WP5): By integrating thermal runaway prevention mechanisms, secure communication frameworks, and cybersecurity protocols, the system ensures battery safety and resilience against cyber threats. Compliance with international safety standards (IEC 62281, UL 1642) further strengthens operational reliability.

Prototyping & Real-World Validation (WP7 & WP8): A fully functional Digital Battery Passport-Integrated BMS prototype will be tested in controlled environments, followed by real-world deployment with an end-user partner in Spain. The Spanish partner, whether an EV manufacturer, energy storage provider, or battery recycler, will integrate the system, validate its performance, and provide feedback to refine its functionality, efficiency, and compliance capabilities.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
The company is looking for Spanish-based partners, including both end-users and technology developers, to collaborate on the development and validation of the Digital Battery Passport-Integrated BMS.

- End-User Partners (e.g., EV manufacturers, energy storage providers, battery recyclers) who can integrate and test the system in real-world applications such as EVs, stationary storage, and second-life batteries. They will provide operational feedback on system performance, reliability, and user experience, ensuring alignment with industry needs.

- Technology Developers (e.g., BMS manufacturers, software developers, cloud service providers) who can contribute to hardware and software development, enhancing system capabilities, connectivity, and compliance with EU Battery Regulations.
