EU policies for better business
European Commission takes further steps to enhance business transparency on social and environmental matters. The Commission has adopted guidelines on the disclosure of environmental and social information. These guidelines will help companies to disclose relevant non-financial information in a consistent and more comparable manner.
New EU rules to strengthen the fight against money laundering, tax avoidance and terrorism financing enter into force. Last week, the Fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive entered into force in the European Union. It strengthens the existing rules and will make the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing more effective. It also improves transparency to prevent tax avoidance.
New rules facilitating cross-border insolvency proceedings entered into force on 26 June. The new rules aim at facilitating debt recovery in cross-border insolvency proceedings. They will make it easier for businesses to restructure and for creditors to get their money back. The Regulation also ensures the recognition of insolvency-related judgments across the EU.
Antitrust: Commission fines Google €2.42 billion for abusing dominance. The European Commission has fined Google €2.42 billion for breaching EU antitrust rules. Google has abused its market dominance as a search engine by giving an illegal advantage to another Google product, its comparison shopping service.
