General information
- Short Summary
- BIP - is an innovative SME specializing in the BioHighTech sector, encompassing biomedical, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. BIP is seeking distributors for ChemoMaker®, located in EU Countries (except Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Malta, Cyprus). Partnerships should be aimed at expanding the distribution of its compounder in the market, guaranteeing high standards of customer service.
- Full Description
-
ChemoMaker®, is an innovative automatic compounder for chemotherapy preparations of oncology drugs and other patient-specific biopharmaceuticals
In general, the system processes drugs in liquid formulation (not only chemotherapeutics, but also monoclonal biopharmaceuticals, cortisone drugs, antiemetics and antibiotics) and doses them with precision gravimetric control.
The ChemoMaker® is a Table-Top device (mass < 30kg) that can be inserted into a laminar flow hood without impacting the layout of the UFA.
The system guides the operators during loading and unloading of the machine and requires only the operator during customized set-ups. The loading and unloading of drugs and infusion media is done in a tracked manner and with redundant recognition systems (barcodes and RFID tags) for maximum operational safety.
Automated preparation unit
The automated preparation unit (APU) must be positioned under the hood and consists of:
• a table-top unit, containing the electronics and a set of robotic actuators, involved in the handling of drugs and containers and the management of dosing steps
• an integrated gravimetric system for checking the quantity of drug transferred from the bottles to the final containers
• an integrated computer vision system
• an interactive touchscreen monitor
The drugs are positioned in the robotized rotor, which can be easily removed for easy cleaning of the machine. Up to 16 drug bottles of different types and sizes can be loaded, with a maximum capacity of 100 ml.
The final containers (of different types and capacities) are placed on special reusable holders, identified by unique RFID tags, which enable the tracking of each container once loaded on the machine. The final containers are handled by a second robotized rotor, which is also removable for easy cleaning of the machine. During the course of a preparation session (‘joblist’), up to a maximum of 12 final containers can be loaded, even different from each other, freely selectable between bags or semi-rigid containers with a capacity of up to 500 ml (prepared for 1000 ml bags with dedicated holders; maximum capacity: 6 bags), syringes with a capacity of up to 50/60 ml, elastomeric pumps of various types and capacities.
The possibility of including different drugs and containers in the same joblist, without any restrictions, allows the preparation of therapies to be programmed freely according to the organizational requirements of the hospital pharmacy.
With a specially ordered hardware/software kit, the ChemoMaker® prepares customized therapies from multi-dose bags (instead of bottles), further expanding the already high degree of operational flexibility
Smart Cartridge
ChemoMaker® enables automatic dosing of antiblastic drug in liquid phase through the adoption of a closed-loop fluidic system based on sterile smart cartridges, ensuring sterility of the drug transfer process from the bottle to the final container and containment of chemical contamination in the surrounding environment.
The cartridges have integrated RFID tags to ensure traceability of the preparation process.
The cartridges are matched to the drug bottle and disposed of with it, according to current regulations. Cartridges are mono-bottle but not mono-preparation, as a single-bottle cartridge assembly can prepare several preparations.
Similar considerations apply to cartridges suitable for multi-dose bags. - Advantages and Innovations
-
ChemoMaker®, is an ultra-compact system for patient-specific chemotherapy set-ups. ChemoMaker® operates in a laminar flow hood - the same one used for manual set-ups, thus requiring no work for its installation, unlike first-generation robots that occupy around 4 m3.
ChemoMaker® has the following distinctive, unique features:
- Extreme compactness, as just described
- Optimal tradeoff between Accuracy, Output and Operational Flexibility
- Simple to Operate, Clean and Maintain
The main advantages of ChemoMaker® are:
- Automated preparation of high volumes of therapies
- Speed of therapy preparation
- Low dosing error
- Flexibility in changing configuration (e.g. from bags to syringes or infusers)
- Substantial reduction of risk for operators
- Automation of drug and final preparation traceability
- Automated storage and reuse of drug residues
- Small footprint: can be placed directly inside an existing class II laminar flow hood or in a sufficiently large isolator (e.g. 4-glove version). - Stage of Development
- Already on the market
- Sustainable Development Goals
- Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
- Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- IPR status
