General information

Short Summary
A Madrid-based independent Research Foundation offers 30+ years of experience working in weather analysis and adaptation to climate change, with its own statistical downscaling methodology to produce local climate change projections and assess its impact (risk assessment, forestry, biodiversity, agriculture, urban areas…). This foundation seeks collaboration within the HE CL6 programme to participate in consortia providing all needed climate information to help achieve project outcomes.
Full Description
A Madrid-based non-profit and totally independent research foundation offers 30+ years of successful national and international experience working on all types of projects related to extreme weather analysis, adaptation to climate change and assessment of its impacts in sectors like: agriculture, forestry, biodiversity or urban infrastructure. This foundation has already developed successful projects throughout all of Europe and most of Latin America, as well as in parts of Asia and Africa, participating in INTERREG, Horizon Europe and H2020 programmes, LIFE, or other frameworks like the IDB or ADB.

By taking part in these projects and other cooperation activities, this foundation has been able to assess and support successfully the development and implementation of adaptation measures to climate change. With the development of an already internationally validated statistical downscaling methodology, this entity can generate trustworthy future local climate change scenarios, based on 10 models and their 4 SSPs of the latest CMIP6. These scenarios are the basis of later development of all types of climate services, like projections of extreme weather phenomena, indicators for linked sectors (agriculture, environment, infrastructure…), or more specific and detailed Climate Risk Assessments to support the adaptation of present and future activities, services, and infrastructure. The weather scale is also a key expertise of this entity, with extensive experience in assessing weather impacts and supporting companies with GIS-based Early Warning Systems (EWS) to provide reliable and tailored weather forecasts to help any activity.

This foundation looks for new opportunities for collaboration with consortia in need of a profile that could cover all climate-related topics, fundamental as a basis to generate nature-based solutions that could cover these CL6 Calls needs, where also they have long expertise working in this field.

Advantages and Innovations
With the crucial importance of climate information as the basis for any development of nature-based solutions or the assessment of climate-related impacts in plenty of sectors of activity and the environment, not only having in sight current times but also future scenarios, it becomes crucial to count on trustable and accurate climate data. In this sense, the fact of being able to work with local climate projections (down to 1x1 km or less of resolution) tailored to the sector needs, results in a huge added value in avoiding risky uncertainties.

This foundation has the means to perform such calculations with its downscaling methodology, which has been put into action and validated in several projects across the world. Being a state-of-the-art tool, this statistical methodology needs way less resources and time than regular dynamical downscalings, and by using weather observations can introduce and reproduce with accuracy local characteristics of vital importance.
