General information
- Short Summary
- A spanish company with large experience in the production and distribution of horticultural, ornamental and aromatic plants, seeks to optimise and digitise its agricultural production process by integrating artificial intelligence participating in the EUROSTARS programme, 2nd open call expected to open in September 2025. They look for a partner experienced in providing intelligent systems for agricultural production.
- Full Description
-
The agriculture sector still faces challenges in integrating smart systems. To remain competitive, improve efficiency, and ensure sustainability, it is essential to accelerate the adoption of AI-driven automation and digital solutions in agricultural production. The current seedbed production system is rudimentary, relying on labels that include batch number, variety, tray number, and sowing date. Temperature and humidity are monitored manually, which can lead to inefficiencies and inconsistencies in plant development. Additionally, the reliance on adhesive barcode labels poses challenges such as label deterioration, misplacement, and the need for manual scanning, increasing the risk of errors and reducing overall operational efficiency.
The project AI Seedbeds is expected to introduce three key improvements. First, the innovation lies in implementing a permanent, technology-driven identification system using water-resistant QR codes, RFID tags, and AI-based vision recognition. These technologies eliminate the dependency on temporary labels and enable seamless tracking throughout the entire growth cycle. Second, the integration of AI enables advanced predictive monitoring and analysis of plant growth, automates climate and resource management through adaptive algorithms, and implements intelligent models to anticipate and prevent crop diseases. This allows for the recording of large streams of data to monitor internal conditions and make informed decisions to fine-tune growing conditions for maximum yield and enhances the production of new seed varieties, allowing for more precise and efficient breeding processes. Lastly, the automation of customer recommendations based on their specific needs and conditions ensures tailored solutions and better service.
With automated data collection and real-time monitoring, the system improves accuracy, minimises waste, and streamlines logistics. By integrating smart tracking solutions and AI capabilities, the project transforms traditional seedling production into a more efficient, scalable, and technologically advanced process, ensuring sustainability and improved decision-making in agricultural operations.
The SME is seeking collaboration with expertise in AI, machine vision, data analytics, predictive modelling RFID systems and IoT solutions to participate in the EUROSTARS programme.
The partners should be in eligible countries.
Timescales:
- Official call deadline: september 2025
- Expression of Interest Deadline: 1st september 2025
- Project duration: 30 months - Advantages and Innovations
-
Enhanced Efficiency&Traceability:
The integration of water-resistant QR codes and RFID tags provides a permanent and reliable method of tracking trays throughout the entire seedling production cycle. This eliminates the need for temporary adhesive labels, which can deteriorate or become misplaced. Real-time tracking ensures that each tray’s progress can be monitored continuously, offering better control, improved logistics, and faster decision-making.
AI-Driven Innovation&Customisation:
By incorporating AI into the production process, we can monitor internal conditions to make informed decisions to anticipate and prevent crop decisions and fine tune growing conditions. The system enables the development of new seed varieties optimised for different environmental conditions and customer preferences. AI also automates recommendations for customers, tailoring solutions based on specific agricultural needs. This personalized approach improves customer satisfaction and fosters innovation in seed production, opening up new opportunities in the market for more customised and efficient products
Sustainability&Waste Reduction
The real-time monitoring of environmental conditions like temperature and humidity ensures optimal growth conditions for the plants, minimising resource waste such as water and fertilisers. This not only enhances sustainability but also reduces production costs. Furthermore, the automation of data collection and tracking allows for better forecasting and inventory management, leading to less waste and more efficient use of resources
Market Scalability&Adaptability
The use of advanced technologies such as RFID and AI-driven solutions makes the entire production process more scalable. This allows companies to expand their operations while maintaining high levels of precision and control. The automation of tracking and recommendation systems also means the technology can adapt to different market demands, customer requirements & environmental conditions - Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
- It is seeked expertise in AI and machine learning, specifically in machine vision, data analytics, and predictive modeling to automate tray tracking, improve seed development, and generate personalized customer recommendations. Additionally, knowledge in RFID systems and IoT solutions is needed to ensure accurate, scalable tracking and real-time monitoring throughout the production cycle.
