Full Description
The project aims to digitally preserve cultural heritage sites and artefacts, emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage in understanding human history. The project uses advanced technology to make these locations accessible to a global audience, aiming to create immersive experiences that foster a deep connection with cultural heritage. The project also recognizes the societal impact of cultural heritage, its power to unite people, stimulate curiosity, and instill a sense of identity and continuity. The project is a comprehensive effort of 3D digitization of cultural legacy, involving various approaches and interdisciplinary efforts. It is structured around four pillars: 3D digitization, implementation of XR environments, collaboration with cultural heritage institutions, and dissemination at the academic and end-user level. The project also addresses endangered cultural heritage sites and aims to advance cultural heritage accessibility and engagement through XR applications. The project's goal is to improve access to cultural heritage sites and artefacts, foster public engagement, and increase cultural awareness on a wider scale. The project is committed to disseminating its methodologies, findings, and innovations, with a focus on maximizing its impact and fostering awareness and appreciation for cultural heritage preservation.

Our main goal with this project is to provide a competence centre for 3D digital twins of tangible cultural heritage items through the strategic implementations of 3D digitisation. At the core of our
objective is the advancement of digital transformation within cultural heritage institutions. Through cutting-edge methodologies like Photogrammetry, 3D scanning, and Photometric Stereo, together with the consortium we will form aim to pioneer innovative frameworks and tools for the availability of advanced 3D data and extended reality (XR) applications. We not only possess expertise in state-of-the-art 3D scanning technologies but also acknowledge the paramount importance of physically preserving cultural heritage. Our approaches involve the use of multiple cameras so that the smallest features of the original piece that could be used in future preservation efforts and digitisation can not only preserve objects but even buildings. Then, we intend to adopt the technical opportunities to safeguard existing cultural heritage as the war in Ukraine intensifies the security of the country's cultural treasures remains uncertain. We are determined to support both structurally and technically to help digital-based initiatives. In alignment with this insight, our consortium brings together partners with diverse know-how. Our activities encompass a holistic approach, ranging from the development of sophisticated 3D reconstruction methodologies and facilitating re-usability of them. By creating a comprehensive repository of 3D and XR content, we aim to contribute significantly to the digital preservation and accessibility of cultural heritage.
